EDDIE THOMSON
Wednesday 12th May 2010
It was with great sadness that the Club heard of the passing of former Referee Eddie Thomson, in the early hours of Monday 10th May in the Marie Curie Hospice in Fairmilehead, Edinburgh.
Eddie Thomson, who was 82 lived with his wife Norma in the Gyle area of Edinburgh and of course is best remembered at Berwick as Referee of the famous 1967 game when Berwick beat Rangers at Shielfield Park.
Club Secretary Dennis McCleary commented on behalf of the club on Monday “ We are truly sad to hear of Eddie’s passing. He was always a welcome visitor at Berwick in his Referee days and then as a Supervisor then later as a guest of the club on many occasions and was a speaker at the Club Dinner in 1997 to honour the 1967 team, 30 years on. He was one of life’s gentlemen and extremely popular all over Scotland. Current Referee David Somers and former Official Bill Mullan have been in touch of late as we knew Eddie was very poorly and Bill confirmed today that the Cremation Service will be at Mortonhall Crematorium in Edinburgh on Friday 14th May at 12 noon. Our sincere condolences to wife Norma and Eddie’s 2 daughters and family”
