Away Fans

Everyone’s welcome at Berwick! If you have never visited us before, we would like to welcome you and provide any information you may need. Here is some information on how to get to the ground, plus local pubs for away fans, and where to get food and accommodation in the area.

Getting to Shielfield

Road

From the South (Berwick by-pass)- Turn onto the B6354 signposted Spittal and Shielfield Park is about 500 yards on the left.

From the North (Berwick by-pass)- Follow the by-pass over the bridge towards Alnwick and Newcastle until you reach the ‘Spittal’ signpost and turn onto the B6354 and Shielfield Park is about 500 yards on the left.

From the Town Centre- Cross the Royal Border Bridge into Tweedmouth and follow the main road up to the railway bridge where Shielfield Park is well signposted.

Rail

Berwick-upon-Tweed is on the East Coast Mainline and is served by GNER and Virgin trains from York, London KX, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Glasgow. A taxi rank is adjacent to the station and it costs about £3 to Shielfield Park. For up to date train times visit the National Rail Enquiries Website.

Coach

The National Express London to Edinburgh service stops at Berwick (Golden Square). Regular services to and from Newcastle and Edinburgh also stop at Berwick. For coach times and travel fares check the National Express Website.

Bus

The local bus service operates busses to and from Dean Drive, which is the nearest bus stop to Shielfield Park. Hop on a Prior Park bus (B50) anywhere in the town and it’ll take you to Dean Drive.

Pubs For Away Fans in Berwick

If you fancy a pint before the match there are a number of pubs near Shielfield. The Black & Gold social club is the nearest, it’s a matter of yards! The Angel Inn on Main Street, Tweedmouth serve bar meals all day and also has a pool table. If you have time on your hands before you catch a coach or a train you can go to The Castle (adjacent to the station).

If you need something to eat (and don’t want a wholesome pie from Buddars tea bar inside the ground) you can eat at one of many Cafe’s and Restaurants in Berwick. If the kids are pestering you for a Big Mac and fries, your in luck! There is now a McDonalds Restaurant beside Safeway, which is just off the A1 by-pass in Highfields.

Bookies & Betting Shops

We’re not particularly blessed with good bookies here in Berwick, even though the locals do like to put a few bets on the footy on a Saturday afternoon. This used to be more of an issue, but these days technology has come to the rescue.

Your best bet is to download a bookies app to your mobile and get your bets on while at the pub or at the ground before kick off. A list of the best football betting apps with download links will help you get one installed quickly.

But for the real world experience, try Chisholm Bookmakers (5 Golden Square, Berwick-upon-Tweed TD15 1BG). You’re likely to walk past it on your way from the station to the ground anyway, and it’s an independent that usually gives friendly service. Can’t comment about the odds, but they always pay out with no fuss.

Alternativeky there are two Ladbrokes branches in town. Personally I hate that company with a passion, so always go to Chisholm. But I know some people like them. One is opposite the Brown Bear on Hide Hill, and there’s another on Marygate next to the Brewers Arms, which you will also pass when walking from the station.
